Orbit (socket)

Dysthyroid orbitopathy

An autoimmune thyroid disease affecting the orbit. Main symptoms are a retraction of the upper eyelid, eyelid swelling, alteration of ocular movements and ocular surface problems. It is a complex pathology that requires cross-disciplinary treatment together with an endocrinologist. If inactive, surgery can be performed to improve the eyelid margin aspect.

Lacrimal gland tumors

Local inflammation of the lacrimal gland (in the external upper angle of the eyelid). Biopsy should be performed in all cases to rule out any inflammatory or malignant process.

Orbital tumors

They may or may not present symptoms, depending on their size and location. The most frequent tumor is proptosis. Images such as orbital tomography are required to define the best treatment.

Evisceration

It is the full drainage of the eye. It is conducted when there is a blind and painful eye. An implant is placed so that the patient may later adapt to a cosmetic prosthesis and achieve a good aesthetic outcome.
