Residency Program

Foundations

Residencies are the foundation of postgraduate medical education and the theoretical and practical procedure allowing a graduate physician to become a specialized one. The theoretical purpose is to create the backbone of knowledge to bring to the daily practice with a supporting scientific base.

It is necessary to give the resident physician the tools required to address the different problems posed by society so that they may provide a comprehensive care and consider the patient as a biopsychosocial unity. One of our cornerstones is to encourage the physician in formation to keep themselves continuously updated and to provide them with spaces for their own development. Also, to give the residents of different years the tools to learn to work in a team and be supportive of one another, so as to create competent work teams, and that they may question diverse aspects and be always willing to resort to official medical literature to continue investigating.

Our goals are derived from three purposes: a strong academic education, teamwork and service provided in line with the patient’s needs. To achieve such goals, there must be qualified physicians able to transfer their knowledge clearly and create curiosity among young residents, so that they may excel themselves every day responsibly and through hard work.

Critical studying and analysis are fostered through diverse bibliographical sources; discussion of clinical cases together with more experienced physicians of each subspecialty. Cross-discipline and research work create the daily challenge of continuous education and self-realization required by a physician nowadays; essential foundations that should endure throughout the life of any professional beyond the residency.

Our residency provides teacher training where physicians in the second year begin teaching younger residents in order to transfer knowledge clearly and on a peer-to-peer basis.
